Hello ,

The year is coming to an end and so are some beloved projects. Over the past 5 years, the INTAKT project has accompanied us permanently. For the final spurt, we really stepped on the gas once again. The highlight in November for us is always Medica/Compamed - this time with surprises...
In this edition we introduce you to our newly appointed office manager in Gelsenkirchen, Dennis Kulage. He is not that new, but has been with WILDDESIGN for 11 years. Once again, I wish you an entertaining 04 minutes.

Yours Markus Wild / today "featuring" Dennis Kulage

INTERACTIVE MICROIMPLANTS - 5 years of research

BMBF RESEARCH PROJECT INTAKT COMES TO AN END

Under the leadership of the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT, the innovation cluster brought together a total of 18 project partners from business, science and hospitals to solve a common ambitious task: To develop interactive implants as impulse generators for tinnitus, functional disorders of the digestive tract or for the recovery of hand gripping functions. The collaborative project was successfully completed in May 2022. The WILDDESIGN team of Marc Ruta, Dana Puhe, Björn Pein, Bauke Herkt, Thomas Lauterjung and other creatives was responsible for the complete usability engineering of the three application scenarios, for the industrial design, the interaction design, the prototype development - as well as the 3D animations to present all project results. Involved in 5 out of 25 high-profile publications in international journals, we made professional and human friends, gained new insights and are proud to be involved in state-of-the-art research.

Thanks to the IBMT team for the heroic coordination effort and to all partners for the good cooperation.

Medica / Compamed 2022 - the new NORMAL

GREAT TEAM, GREAT TRADE FAIR

After the online or hybrid format in the last two years, we were finally able to experience the four great days at Compamed "normally" again - with "best coffee far and wide", personal encounters, stimulating conversations and our friends from BYTEC Medizintechnik at our side.

It was always busy at our booth, the team (Niclas, Tim, Sven, Marc and Alicia + Dennis/ not in the picture) was involved in exciting conversations throughout. Some of our customers and network partners we actually met for the last time before the Corona crisis, so a personal reunion was all the more gratifying. Some, however, asked in vain for our boss, who had to rest his Achilles tendon at home on the couch. Next time again for sure!

The mixture of live demo from the POC Device Rhonda from Spindiag, old acquaintances like the Elisa 300 from Löwenstein, surgical instruments from Aesculap and Rejoin to touch and a well sorted digital presentation made many visitors stop at our booth. Special thanks therefore go to our customers for the exhibits they provided.

As the saying goes - after the fair is before the fair - will we see you in Dubai at Arab Health?

DENNIS - office manager and team player

HOW DOES ONE ACTUALLY GET THE IDEA OF BECOMING AN INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER?

When Dennis got his hands on the first Apple products during his school years, he was fascinated by the cool, uniform design. During an internship at an advertising agency, the then brand-new iMac came across his desk and it was clear to Dennis that he wanted to design and conceive products.

Even though he was drawn to the "wide world" after his studies in industrial design and his simultaneous self-employment, he did not end up in Munich or Berlin but remained true to his home: the Ruhr area. And he has never regretted this decision. He has been managing the WILDDESIGN office in Gelsenkirchen for four months now. In addition to the strong connection to the Ruhr area, his team is especially important to him - that's what makes WILDDESIGN for him.

Medical design means more to Dennis than just creating an impressive shell. Small mechanical solutions inspire him. In day-to-day use, a clever dispenser system for anesthetic ampoules or an easy-to-open battery compartment on an insulin pump can make a big difference, just like the details on Apple.

After almost eleven years at WILDDESIGN, Dennis is looking forward to continuing to run the office in Gelsenkirchen just as successfully - and he is also "really up for the redesign of the office in the coming year".

To pitch or not to pitch?

How do you find the ideal design partner?

A pitch is one of many ways for our clients to find the ideal and long-term design partner. But beware, it's not trivial! In our blog post, we summarize some important steps and requirements.

MONA in TIME Magazine

Mona-Device_ICU-bed_TIME-Best-Inventions

The venerable TIME Magazine counts MONA among the 200 best innovations of 2022 worldwide. A sensational award for the AI-powered "intelligent assistance system for the intensive care unit" of our customer Clinomic from Aachen. We congratulate and may bask in this glory as designers ;-)

Silver Planer - Design Sprint 10

MicrosoftTeams-image (7)

How can loneliness be prevented in the 60+ generation? Product design student Alicia Kastner-Pöhlmann is tackling the problem with the "SILVER PLANER. During her internship in Magdeburg, she developed a device that allows the "silver generation" to communicate easily with family, friends, doctors and caregivers. As a sprint project now on our blog.

TIR-band - Design Sprint 11

Around 15-20 percent of all children worldwide suffer from the skin disease atopic dermatitis. In another design sprint, Darius Fernandes in the Gelsenkirchen office has designed a TIR wristband that relieves itching and "grows" with the user. The industrial design student from Loughborough UK focused on ergonomic design for this purpose. Child-friendly color scheme included.

7 NEW IN THE TEAM

In the fall, our teams in Germany again reaped a rich harvest in the form of young talent and strong personalities:

After successfully completing his master's degree in "Strategic Product and Innovation Development," Luis van den Berg (below right) started in Gelsenkirchen in November - two years earlier, he had already convinced us during his internship. Continuing clockwise: Angran Li joined our Magdeburg team as an intern in October, while Alicia Müller, Braham Singh and Philipp Spiridi recently moved into the Gelsenkirchen interns' shared apartment as interns.
Only the two Munich interns Vinzenzo Ienopoli and Clément Houssin have been thrown in at the deep end so that they have not yet been able to leave a scent mark on our team. We'll make up for it. Welcome to the team!
